August 2018 - 4 Legged Runner of the Month
When we received a completed Runner of the Month application from a mini horse, we were a bit taken aback. Can we pick a horse as a Runner of the Month?
We can. And we did.
We have seen this tiny horse do amazing things along side her adoptive mom, Jen Joines, as they trot their way through our 100 mile challenges and many virtual races. But this wasn't always possible for this mini. Jen rescued Kricket from a life of neglect and brought out the little dragon inside of her. Just look at that face! Kricket lives for eating and for running and hiking the trails. Kricket and her mom found a passion for virtual racing since live races tend to frown upon having a little horse in attendance. She can now run off her extra snack calories while earning some amazing medals. As a matter of fact, Kricket even has her own medal rack equipped with her very own bling! She's kind of a big deal.
Kricket has come a long way from the shy, neglected little horse she once was. Although she be but a tiny horse, she is mighty, and she is an inspiration to so many! She has certainly won over our hearts and has proven just how fierce she really is. SHE CANNOT BE BROKEN! For these reasons (and many more) she is our first ever Four-Legged Runner of the Month! Congratulations, Kricket (and Jen)!
